Women’s Genevieve Blouse: V or U Shaped Neck, Short Sleeve or No Sleeves

Genevieve Blouse

Women's Genevieve Blouse

We love the simplicity of this pattern, making it a great first woven blouse.

Tips for Beginners:

  • Try the round neck version; the V neck requires special care.
  • Avoid slippery fabrics. Use lightweight broadcloth, cotton shirtings, or cotton/linen blends, but not pure linen.
  • A bit of spandex or elastine in the fabric can sometimes make easier cutting!
  • For the V neck, use a rotary blade for precise facing and stabilizer like Nancy Zieman’s Stay Tape. You might also use the tape on the sleeve seams.
  • Practice blending the waist to hips on muslin for a custom fit.
  • Only attempt this pattern if the darts match your bust size.
  • Use dark, lightweight fabrics. Avoid sheer or floral patterns.

I am a lifetime New Englander,in suburban Boston and my passion for the creative arts and design runs deep from fine art to design, to fiber arts and digital design. My mother, who crafted my costumes and clothing in the 60s and 70s, and my fraternal grandmother, from a migrant family from Poland who left school in 6th grade to work as a seamstress, have significantly influenced my sewing journey. My grandmother's skills allowed her to design many of her children's clothes, leaving a lasting legacy of skill and creativity. Guided by my strong Christian faith and supported by my loving family, I find inspiration in every aspect of my life. My husband, Mark, is my best friend and sales guru, and my son, Alex, resides in San Jose, California. I am also a proud step-grandmother to Hazel and Gottlieb, and step mother to Sean and his lovely wife Lisa, who live in Austria.
